Today was a nice day for us all to be home together. Things have been less than optimum with Syndie out of town three hours away to be with her Dad and Family at the hospital but we do what we have to do because it is important for her to be there. We were all able to sleep in do some picking up around the house, made homemade banana chocolate chip pancakes, and spend a long time playing at our local park. Syndie’s Dad is still not in a good place yet so he is in still need of lots of prayers.

Our family has been waiting for the Spring thaw in order to walk to more of our community destinations, but know with the ever-increasing price of gas there is an even bigger incentive to drive less. I found a web site that will rate your neighborhood for walking accessibility. It is called Walk Score. You can see how my neighborhood rates here. Where can you walk to?
Syndie is away in London to be with her Dad and family at University Hospital. She left on Tuesday afternoon. Syndie and Samantha were in Lansing for a 4th grade State Capitol trip. I had to drive to Lansing and pick her up when I got off work at 1:00. I was able to get there in 1 1/4 hours which is really good time. I then brought her back home so she could pack and head to Windsor to meet up with her sister and go the rest of the way to London. Her Dad had surgery that night and is still in ICU. More details at his special medical blog.
I also want to say a BIG THANKS to all of you who have been helping us out. Friends, neighbors, and co-workers have given us food, gas money, watched our kids, and lent moral support. We are truly, truly, thankful to all of you! It would be impossible to be doing this without your help.
Tomorrow the kids are off school for teacher professional development so I have taken the day off work to be home with them.
I also had my first issue with my little Toyota car. My muffler must have had a deep rust pocket and after I hit a bump some came loose. So now my little car sounds like a big tank! Which I will need to get fixed in the next couple of days because I will make a lot of enemies when I leave for work at 4:30am. So now that gas prices are $3.69 a gallon I will add a repair to boot.
Our family has chosen to participate in national TV turn off week.
As a family we are taking a intentional break from screen time.

We had our first BBQ for 2008 on the patio last night.
I really like to grill, so it was nice to be able be out and to be cooking. I made chicken breasts that had been marinated in lemon pepper sauce. I was a little worried about the grill though before yesterday. A winter storm sent the grill crashing end over end and all the internal workings of the grill were dislodged. But thanks to self-tapping screws and some utility wire I was able to get it all back up and running.
We had our good friends the Hovey’s (from Dundee) over. We had not all been together for way to long. It was nice to be together and catch up on life.
Today is shaping up to be a beautiful Spring day in MI!
Stop and take a moment to savor life!
