Please Pray With Me

Filed under: personal — jimlbest @ 5:03 pm

I just received word from my Dad that my Grandma Perkins has pneumonia. They have found a spot on her lungs with a chest x-ray. My Grandma is a 102 and this is the first she has had anything like this.

I also found out that a friend in Metro-Cincy (Chris Marshall) blew out his Achilles tendon playing basketball this past weekend. He said he felt like someone shot him. He will have a rough few months and he recovers from this injury.

New Update on Chris via his own Blog

My left achilles is completely ruptured, the ER doctor was wrong. It
looks like I may be scheduled for surgery on Thursday to repair it with
a Kevlar staple of some sort. Then its 6 weeks in a cast. Then 6 weeks
in an air cast boot (I’m in one now). That’s 3 months in a cast. Then 3
additional months of rehab. I won’t run for 6 months following surgery
and all my daily life routines will have to change or be realigned.
Bright side is that its my left foot so I can still drive, but not my
truck which is a stick shift. So I’m gonna have to get rid of it. Going
to pick up my grandmothers car this evening.

So it is really going to be rough.

Good Nights Rest

Filed under: Film, personal — jimlbest @ 2:24 pm
Well, I finally got a decent sleep on a Sunday night. It has been a while in coming for me. I am going to continue not to sleep in as late on Sunday mornings because that seemed to make a big difference. Credit goes to my awesome wife for making that prescription to me.
This past weekend Syndie and I also got a chance to watch a DVD called, Beyond the Sea. It was a musical autobiography of Bobby Darin. I did not know much about him before I saw the DVD and I am not 100% sure why I even chose to put it in our NetFlix que, but it was a good movie and it had a good story line. I especially appreciated the way Bobby Darin defined his personal success. For example early on in his carrier he wrote and performed a song called, Splish, Splash …Takin a Bath. Soon he was asked to perform on American Bandstand, but as great as that was, success to Darin was to perform at the night club Copa Cabana, and eventually he made it there. Check it out and see for yourself.

Special Treat

Filed under: family — jimlbest @ 12:54 pm

Today Syndie’s Mom and Dad are dropping by for lunch. They were in Windsor this weekend and decided to pop over for a visit. Today is also very special because it is the 16th anniversary of their van accident when they rolled over on black ice on the 401. So we will celebrate life and the fact that God spared them and the story they continue to tell because of God, saving grace.

Also we are also going to have Emily’s best friend (Crystal) family over tonight to play games and have desert.

Sleeping In

Filed under: personal — jimlbest @ 1:08 pm

I feel like a teenager again, in relation to my desire to sleep in on the weekends. With my work schedule being all out of wack having to work from 5-1. It is hard to get into a good pattern of sleeping. To many things are going on for me to go to bed at 8:00 at night, but my body starts shutting down from exhaustion whether I want it to or not. So it is a real big deal to sleep in on Saturday and Sunday. But I am going to try and not sleep in quite to late on Sundays because I have had trouble falling asleep in a timely fashion on Sundays night which is a bad way to start off the week as far as my sleep cycle.

Syndie has also started to blog again after taking a couple years off. Her last blog entry was the day befor our house fire. So if you want to see what she what her heart on her sleeve looks like point your browser to- http://syndie.wordpress.com

Van In The Shop

Filed under: personal — jimlbest @ 7:31 pm

We dropped off our van this afternoon for it to undergo the repairs it needs from last weeks accident. If all goes well we should have it back by Thursday.

Last night I had a good laugh as Syndie and I watched Fifty First Dates. Syn gave it to me as a birthday present this year. According to the research Syn did for a recent training class at work laughing is like inner jogging as far as how it benefits your body. My kind of workout!

I am so glad that this work week is over for Syn. She did the work of two people all week as her co-worker was out of town in Ohio.

Dreams are important

When God wants to initiate a new movement in history, he does not intervene directly, but sends us dreams and visions that can, if attended to, intiate the process.

traumatic day

Filed under: Uncategorized — jimlbest @ 3:31 pm
This morning Emily’s goldfish "Bubbles" died. This started am emotional tailspin that continued throughout the day. As soon as she got home she showed me a not from a classmate that said she did note want to be her friend anymore. … So to say the least she has had a rough day.
I spent a two hours at the dentist today getting full mouth x-rays and a cleaning. It was a nice sunny day and I would have rather curled up on my living room couch by the window and had a nap.
Well, I have been summoned to go and help burry the fish cadaver.

I like to volunteer

Filed under: Uncategorized — jimlbest @ 3:51 pm

Every Wednesday I volunteer in my daughter Sam’s class at Schweitzer Elementary. Her teacher, Ms. Weisek does a great job giving me meaningful work to do with the class. For example today I did guided reading groups, math competency testing, and writing. It was also nice today that I was there while Sam got hurt at recess. She was hit with a ball on the playground and I helped her make it feel better. Tonight I continue my hospice volunteer training. The topic for tonight is stages of grief/death and cultural sensitivity. Sounds like it will be interesting. I feel bad for Syndie, her co-worker is off this whole week so she is completely swamped trying to do the work of two. Well I need to run and check on the kids.

Tuesday

Filed under: family, personal — jimlbest @ 2:28 pm
Bit of a snow scare today. There was an hour of heavy flurries around 10:30 this morning. Thankfully it quit and the temp rose a bit and it all melted. This afternoon the kids have after school Bible club. Piston’s play the T-Wolves tonight and I should be able to catch the first half before I have to go to bed.

I beginning to not like Sunday nights!

Filed under: family — jimlbest @ 4:58 pm
Last night I had trouble sleeping again! I wen to bed at 9:00 but I did not fall asleep until around 12:30 am. It makes for a very short night and a sluggish day when my alarm goes off at 4:15am.
Today when I got off work I had to run around trying to get all the details together for ur insurance claim paperwork. A trip to police station, body shop, and insurance agents office. Hopefully now they will be able to get the ball rolling to pay the claim.
The damage pictured below is going to cost about $3,000 to fix.
