This is a first

This is a picture of a husband in Redford, Mi (neighboring community) who is on strike till he gets his wife back. This husband is frustrated that his relationship with wife has changed to much after having kids. So now he feels he needs to take action. You can read the full Free Press article here.
He is also blogging about his struggle here.
The points he brings up are valid. Intimacy and vitality must be constantly nurtured for a husband and wife. I have found that a couple goes through various seasons on how they relate and interact with each other because of the needs of there kids but you can’t push "pause" on your life remote and come back later when the kids are gone and grown up. When this type of thing happens the relationship dies.
So do something nice and unexpected for your spouse. Your relationship is worth it!

Death of another saint…

Filed under: missional, personal — jimlbest @ 2:44 pm

Precious in the sight of the lord are the death of his saints. Psalm 116:15

Today I received a call at 11:45 telling that Palmer had passed into the presence of Jesus. He had  a two year bout with cancer.

Palmer and Landing Place in Columbus was one of the first missional communities I investigated back in 2003 as I was preparing to step down from Canton Community Church. I will always remember the warm welcome and special prayer time that they had for me.

I also watched from a distance what he conspired with the Underground Seminary and received several books recommendations to check out from their dialogue.

My heart goes out to little Micah who has lost both of his birth parents to cancer.

Week of NCAA Upsets

Filed under: Sports — jimlbest @ 6:51 pm

Lots of shockers in college hoops this week. With the teams that will be left I want to see the George Mason Patriots win it all. Especially after the knocking off UCON.
Folarin Campbell's Patriots outscore UConn 12-10 in OT. (AP)

Update on My Parents

Filed under: family — jimlbest @ 3:14 pm

I just got of the phone with my Dad and he is still going to be the pastor of the Charleston Bible Center. He had some important meetings this week and steps are being taken to correct some problem areas. Prayer would still be appreciated regarding the situation.

And speaking of prayer. My Mom took nasty slip and fall on her deck that was covered with a thin layer of ice. She hit really hard and banged and bruised herself up pretty good. She has had a lot of ongoing problems with neck, back, and joint pain so this has put her in a lot of pain.

Back Home Safe and Sound

Filed under: friends — jimlbest @ 1:03 pm

I got home safe and sound from my mini-basketball vacation in East Lansing last night. I actually got home three hours early and was able to surprise my family and help tuck in 2/3 kids for bed. My friend Doug suggested that we skip the last game which did not start till eight. The only snag was that we had car pooled to the arena to save on parking so we had to take a commuter bus back out to Okemos where we had spent the night. The last game we watched went into double overtime and we to really hoof it across campus to make the bus. The only problem was that we were not 100% sure where the bus actually picked up. But with some fast feet and quick eyes we were able to make the bus connection and get home early. Doug gets credit for making the plan come together and having the idea in the first place. The weather has not been great today so I have just been hanging around with the kids playing table games like Uno and watching some movies. It is always good to get a break and go away but it is also great to come home as well.

Week of Basketball!!

Filed under: Sports — jimlbest @ 2:31 pm

Sunday night we were offered tickets to go to tomorrows game at the Palace when the Pistons take on the Miami Heat. It should be an excellent game and I think we have really good seats!

Thursday I leave to go with Doug to our annual trip to the state boys high school playoff’s in East Lansing at MSU. Today’s paper had the announcement of Michigan’s Mr. Basketball and it was a kid that we watched play last year named David Kool.

Trip To Grand Rapids

Filed under: friends — jimlbest @ 2:20 pm

Yesterday my friend Rob Lane and I took a quick trip to Grand Rapids. I wanted to take him to the used book extravaganza at Baker Books shown above. As well as the factory clearance center at Eerdmans and Baker. I was able to make some recent gift money go very far, and Rob was able to pick up some used books he wanted at a reasonable price.

awesome weekend

Filed under: family — jimlbest @ 11:52 pm

We have been having an awesome weekend! Celebrating life, ministry, and vows and life together! Saturday we gathered with friends and family to celebrate my desire to be in Kingdom Leadership and take vows to be true to Christ, kind to people, and gospel to the nations. The best part was to be there with friends and family people who were very close and important to me.

My friend Rob came the farthest distance from Sacramento, CA. My brother Nate drove 11 hours from NYC and Mom and Dad drove 8 hours from Central Illinois.

All kinds of great food, drink, and laughing. A day/weekend that will be remembered and cherish for the rest of my life.

Thanks to everyone who came and was a part of this special time.
