Way to go Lisa!!!

Filed under: friends — jimlbest @ 10:18 am

Way to go!! Our friend Lisa graduates this weekend at a ceremony at Ford Field with a degree in accounting. Lisa has worked very hard the last three year to put herself through school and take care of her three young kids. She has done an incredible job! It has been an awesome privilege to help cheer her on and do what we can along the way. This summer she wants to get special certification to do “forensic” accounting.

my girls

Filed under: family — jimlbest @ 2:19 pm

Well, it turns out that my girls who were not feeling well have strep throat. They are contagious for the next 24 hrs. Syndie stayed home with them till I got off work at 1:00 and tomorrow I will be home with them after I put a few hours in the pre-dawn morning.

Syndie has a busy day/night now that she is off to work. Tonight is the annual volunteer appreciation banquet a local golf course. So, because she is one of the FT volunteer coordinators she will be very busy showing thanks to all who give of their time and talent to Angela Hospice.

sick kids again…

Filed under: family — jimlbest @ 7:27 pm

Two of my kids are under the weather again. Sam and Emily have aches, sore throats, swollen glands, etc. Tomorrow Syndie is going to try and get them to the Doctor to see what is up. It seems ironic that they were fine for the last week and a half and now that it is time to go back to school and work they are not feeling good. Oh. well, that is life and parenting. I need to remember to tell myself that too soon they will be grown up and gone so I need to take the all the varied moments I am gifted with and make the lemons into lemon aide.

Happy Earth Day…

Filed under: personal — jimlbest @ 9:17 pm

Today was my first day of work in over a week. It was a glorious day outside and I wished I had been working outdoors. Earth Day is a great day to think about and practice the stewardship God has given us for earth. Below are some things I copied from the New American Dream website.

Tips for ParentingEarth Day’s motto, "Think Globally, Act Locally," is a great reminder that seemingly small individual actions can really add up to make a difference for people and the planet.

Turn the Tide

Turn the Tide is
an innovative program that Americans are using to make a difference for
our environment. Turn the Tide offers nine simple actions almost anyone
can take and then instantly shows the positive impact of each reported
action. read more…

Happy Friday

Filed under: personal — jimlbest @ 10:28 am

Happy Friday to all who read this. I am home again today with the kids to a scheduling changeup with Syndie’s work. I will put in my eight tomorrow or Sunday. It does not really matter as long as it done before Monday morning for school.

The kids and I are going tomake a trip to the Hospice so I can fill birdfeeders, a public library visit, and a extended trip to the park if the weather holds.

It has been a very restful energizing week off from work for me. I will be facing some changes at work next week but all will be for the best.

Take time and enjoy life today……

Our Trip In Detail

Filed under: Travel, family — jimlbest @ 9:28 am
Here is a step by step of our recent trip to North Carolina.

Thursday-
Up and on the road by 5:30am. Drove all the way to Charleston, West Virginia and stayed in a Comfort Suites with indoor pool and hot tub.

Friday-
Drove to the rest of the way to Durham through West Virginia, Virginia, and North Carolina. Drove through one of the worst thunder storms of my life in the West Virginia mountains. Very tense, scary driving for a solid couple of hours. Arrived in Durham around 1:00. Went of for dinner to a restaurant in downtown Durham called, Mellow Mushroom. The best part of the restaurant was the the magician that came and did tricks at our table.

Saturday-
Slept in and and had a laid back morning. In the afternoon we went for a hike in a forest owned by Duke that was used for forestry classes.  We also watched a cool movie called, Emmanuel’s Gift. In the late evening we were treated to a night out on the town (Raleigh) to a dueling piano bar called, Rum Runners. It was a lot of fun.

Sunday-
Went to an Easter service at Eon River Universalist Unitarian Fellowship. Syndie sang in a mass choir that did the Hallelujah Chorus. In the mid-afternoon we had a large steak BBQ dinner with all the fixings. Later that night we watched some blue collar comedy together.

Monday-
We took a trip to the Duke Campus. We got a up close look at the Children’s hospital and the Sarah Duke gardens. Later that evening we had a patio fire and roasted marsh mellows.

Tuesday-
We went to a local "sky scraper" called the Chrystal pickle. We were able to get up to the observation deck and see a great vista. We were also able to see Lemur’s that Duke student study. Then we had to pack up and start heading home. We drove to Charleston, WV again and stayed at the same Comfort Suites.

Wednesday-
We slept in went swimming and heading out around 11:30. We were home by 6:00. We unpacked and then watched the final regular season game for the Piston’s.

Thursday-
Syndie is back to work. I go back tomorrow. It was a good, rest full vacation!
