Home For The Holidays

Filed under: family — jimlbest @ 9:10 am

It is so nice to be off for an extended period of time between the Christmas and New Year holidays. This is one of the +’s of my job. I finished up my last day on December 31st and I do not have to go back to work until January 3rd. The time off will be good for me to slow down and catch up on  my rest.

So far it has been a great time with family and extended family. Late last night we came back from spending a couple of days with Syndie’s family celebrating Christmas. When we all gather together their are 19 people running around and their will be 2 more by next Christmas.

My kids woke us up around 5:00 am on Christmas day. The kids were very excited with their new mp3 players that came from Santa and Mom and Dad.

Nothing is ever dull at our house so we decided to do some new things this year to spice things up a bit. Emily got a massive bloody nose while we were opening presents and it took about ten minutes for us to get it to stop. Later after opening presents Syndie and I gave each other a hug and knocked over a pint of half and half and spilled it all over the floor and into the kitchen utensil drawer.

An experiment in tire buying

Filed under: personal — jimlbest @ 3:26 pm

My wife’s van needs two new front tires. I really dislike going to tire shops because there is never a good time to go and it seems like you have to wait forever for the installation. Discount Tire has a new program where you can shop online get a out the door price quote and make an appointment for the installation. So I have been to the site and dis my shopping and will know after Thursday how good the system works.

Garner Nightmare Continues

Filed under: friends — jimlbest @ 2:57 pm

Just wanted to let everyone know that the motion hearing scheduled for
tomorrow morning, Dec. 15th has been postponed to Jan. 8th.  Sorry for the
late notice but my lawyer just called at 10:00pm to let us know the news. I
feel really bad that many of you have made plans to attend these court
hearings just to find out at the last minute it has been postponed.  I guess
this is how our judicial system works.  We were hoping to have some closure
and have this resolved before the end of the year but unfortunately this is
still going to be hanging over our heads in 2007. The sad part is there will
never be a happy ending once this court battle is all over.  Karlie will
still be missing from our lives!

Thanks again for all your support  We will be sure to keep you all
updated on any other information regarding this case.

Thanks,

Lisa Garner

Update On Lisa Garner

Filed under: friends, personal — jimlbest @ 6:33 pm

Lisa Garner’s trial was postponed again until this Friday. The Judge decided he needed more time to read up on the case. He did not come to this conclusion until friends and family had waited for a few hours at the Hall of Justice

On a personal note I am not feeling good. I have finally succumbed to a a nasty cough. I ache all over from coughing so much. I made a trip to Wal-Mart and plan to dope myself after a hot steamy shower.

Trying out some new things this Christmas

Filed under: family — jimlbest @ 4:24 pm

This year we have decided to do some different things for Christmas this year. We have consciously bought less gifts and presents for ourselves and have tried to spend the money for things that promote social justice. Two of the things we did were to buy a goat from World Vision to be given to a family in need. It will provide the family with a source of food and income to provide for their family. We looked through the catalog and the kids chose the goat.

We also chose to buy some of the gifts we were going to purchase from 10,000 Villages. This site allows artisans/merchants from developing countries to sell their products to a larger audience at a fair trade price.

Please take at the links in this post and consider making a gift/purchase yourself.

Lisa Garner Update

Filed under: friends — jimlbest @ 3:02 pm
Hello Everyone,

I wanted to let you all
know that Lisa’s Motion that was scheduled for Monday, December 11th
has been rescheduled for Wednesday, December 13th.  I do want to
apologize for the short notice, but we just found out about this late
last night.

Lisa received a phone call
from her attorney on Thursday evening stating that he totally dropped
the ball and that we had to be in court Friday morning at 9:00 and that
her trial was scheduled to begin on Monday.  Well, of course, we had a
fit about this.  As it stands now, the Motion is rescheduled for
Wednesday.  Now, as you all know, this has a tendency of changing at
the drop of a dime.  The only way for me to contact a great deal of you
is through email.  If any of you are planning to come on Wednesday
morning, can you please email me a number that I can reach you at
Tuesday evening in case anything changes.  We are hoping that this date
sticks, and it should, but I just don’t want anyone to show up there
Wednesday and no one is there.

I
want to thank you again for all of your support during this time.  This
whole situation has broken our hearts on every level imaginable and the
support that has been shown is indescribable and I don’t want any one
of you to feel that it does not go unnoticed.    Thank you again for everything and I ask that you continue to
keep Lisa and Craig both in your thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,

Lisa Alaniz
