nice holiday weekend
It has been a nice holiday weekend. We have been able to spend lots of time with friends and family and due some big projects around the house.
Friday we had a great BBQ with the Worth Family in Canton. Saturday we cleaned out the garage and cleaned the house inside. We had plans to go to LaSalle to have a bonfire with the Hovey/Clark Family but we were rained out and had a indoor game night at Doug and Heathers instead. We had fun eating and playing the board game "Battle of the Sexes". Sunday the whole family walked down to Rocky’s Coney for brunch. Later we went to Randazos to buy trees, shrubs, and potting plants. We got completely drenched while we were there. Later for dinner we had a BBQ with the A’Hearns and caught up with them. Big congrats on the new house they purchased in Canton. Today Emily hung out with a friend and JJ and Sam were invited to go to the zoo in Battle Creek. Syndie and I planted three trees and one shrub along with lots of cleaning and weeding of flower beds. This has become annual work time for us outdoors. The yard looks great and I’m sure we will be a bit sore tomorrow.

email glitch
Last night and this morning I was experiencing an issue with my Comcast email. If you received an error message when you tried to send me something the issues have been fixed. Comcast had some internal issues with the new modem that was installed for our phone service and Internet.

Micah 6:8 (The Message)
But he’s already made it plain how to live, what to do,
what God is looking for in men and women.
It’s quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor,
be compassionate and loyal in your love,
And don’t take yourself too seriously—
take God seriously.

Happy 14th Anniversary to us
Today, Syndie and I celebrate 14 wonderful years together. I am so overwhelmed by the depth of our relationship. We have a soulish connection that makes me keep asking, "why us?", but I am very glad it’s there. We have covered a lot of miles (literally). We have lived in downtown Chicago, Grand Rapids MI, Oro Grande CA, Canton MI, and Westland MI where we hope to stay for a good long time and put down some roots. One of our evolving goals is to live deep in a shallow world.
Syndie Best I love you, and I continue be amazed at your beauty.

Local Merchant highlight part II
Two years a go I married Brandi and Scott at the Embassy Suites in Livonia. Last month they opened up a new store in Westland called All Occasion Accessories. They have everything you would need for a wedding except bridal gowns. I stopped in to visit them this past Saturday. They opened the store based on their experiences planning their own wedding. There is not much available in the area and they wanted to offer sensibly priced solutions to that problem. I would encourage anyone in need of wedding, anniversary, or party need to use their business. The store is located at the intersection of Wayne and Ford Roads. The address is 1939 Wayne Road. The phone is 734-595-1446. www.alloccasionaccessories.net
Local Merchant highlight
Today Syndie and I went to a new local restaurant in our neighborhood. The kids were all away at various sleep overs with friends. So we decided to scope out this new place that just opened a couple of weeks a go. The name of the place is Rocky’s Coney and Grill. It is located just north of the intersection of Palmer and Wayne Roads. They feature American, Greek, and Italian food. The breakfast we had this morning was excellent. Syndie had a Belgian waffle and I had a Western omelet. Our portions were large and reasonably priced. We plan to goo back very soon with the whole family. So we would recommend this local merchant for your patronage if you are in the neighborhood.

Grassroot Economics
In two words, buy local! A lot is wrong these days with the Michigan economy at the local, county, and state level. The situation is complex and will require more that immediate short term solutions. In my own economic musing I have formulated a everyday way to help stimulate the economy. The best way I personally have to make a difference is to buy local. So we as a family have decided to make every effort to buy our purchases in Westland. If we can not buy something in Westland then we will try to make the purchase within our school district which includes Wayne and Westland. If this still does not work out then we will make every effort to get the purchase in Wayne County. If what we need is not in Wayne County then we will try to make the purchase within the state of Michigan, and if for some reason we have to buy from an on-line source out of state we will keep track of the purchase and pay sales tax the following April we file our state income tax. We figure we have to buy things so we might as well make a difference with where we shop.

What’s been going on
Lots of good stuff!
Today Syndie and JJ went on a school field trip to a trout farm in Dexter, Mi. JJ had a blast and you can see his catch in the previously uploaded video clip from Google. Last night we were at Stevenson Middle School award ceremony to see Emily receive a special award for involvement with the student council government. Mondays and Wednesdays JJ and I are at the ball diamond practicing with our team the Yankees. JJ is really doing well and he is very anxious for time for his first real game on May 30th. Syndie and I have been enjoying watching NBA basketball playoffs and a few of our favorite/only TV shows like 24 and ER. We only like shows that have two letters or numbers! ![]()
