kingdom people

By j evans on General

Richard Rohr from Jesus’ Plan for a New World via Inward/Outward:

“I
hope you’ve met at least one Kingdom person in your life. They are
surrendered people. You sense that life is OK at their core. They have
given control to Another and are at peace. A Kingdom person lives for
what matters, for life in its deepest sense. There’s a kind of gentle
absolutism about their life-style, a kind of calm freedom. Kingdom
people feel like grounded yet spacious people. Whatever they are after,
they already seem to be enjoying it – and seeing it in unlikely places.
Kingdom people make you want to be like them…. Kingdom people are
anchored by their awareness of God’s love deep within.”

God, make us those kind of people. Amen.

You were strung up and slathered in shaving cream and then you had to be kissed by your finance in order to be released. Everyone who put shaving cream on you had to kick in $$ so that you could go out on a date after word. side note … check out the length of my hair! :-) Some college friends put this up on Facebook.

a hero of mine

Filed under: missional, personal — jimlbest @ 4:22 pm

A while a go I wrote a post about who some of my heroes might be. In my thinking and searching I have figured out who one of them is for me. His name is Michael Frost. He is a missional church practitioner  from Australia. Below is two You Tube video links from a recent conference in Texas.

more family time

Filed under: family — jimlbest @ 5:37 pm

This morning we saw my brother and his family off to travel back to Green Valley, IL. They left a little later than they wanted because we stayed up late watching the movie called, The Village. It was a pretty edgy movie and had some deep undercurrents that made you think.

After they left we cleaned up the house and transformed the house from the celebration of Thanksgiving to the celebration of Advent and Christmas. It is always such fun to get the things out and see the kids decorate the tree and tell stories about which ornaments are their favorites.

Later in day we went over to Ann Arbor and did some holiday shopping at 10,000 Villages store. The kids had saved up their own money and had a lot of fun picking things out for each other. Now they are wrapping and putting things under the tree.

prayer at thanksgiving

Filed under: Food and Drink — jimlbest @ 9:45 am

                                            A Thanksgiving Prayer

        Oh, God, when I have food
        help me to remember the hungry;
        When I have work, help me
        to remember the jobless;
        When I have a warm home,
        help me to remember the homeless;
        When I am without pain,
        help me to remember those who suffer;
        And remembering, help me
        to destroy my complacency
        and bestir my compassion.
        Make me concerned enough
        to help, by word and deed,
        those who cry out
        for what we take for granted.
