Gary Kivell Update

Filed under: family — jimlbest @ 10:08 am

Syndie just called and gave me an update on Gary’s condition.

They were able to remove the breathing tube.

He was able to stick out his tongue when requested by the medical staff.

His blood pressure is being closely monitored. Early after the surgery it was low but now it is high. They will continue to monitor it for the right level.

They also plan to keep him sedated because of the post-op pain levels.

Gary Kivell Update

Filed under: family — jimlbest @ 11:03 pm

Hi Everyone,

This is Syndie writing from Katherin and Toby’s
house in London. It’s 10:30 and we have finally come back from the
hospital. First of all, thank you, thank you, thank you for all of your
prayers. God has sustained us through an excruciatingly long day of
waiting. The surgery took about 6 hours. As you already read here, Mom
had a little bit of trouble right after we sent dad to the OR. The
nurse that attended to her decided that she was in shock. It has been
an awful couple weeks for her and I think it all just caught up with
her. She is much better tonight.
Before we left the hospital we
checked with Dad’s nurse one more time. Dad’s blood pressure is low and
they have had to add more medications to keep it from dropping lower.
Because of this they have decided to keep him completely sedated
through tomorrow rather than trying to take him off the vent. We are
trusting that his blood pressure will stabilize by tomorrow and they
will be able to proceed with recovery plans.
there is much more that
I could write but I am beyond exhausted. Again, thank you so much for
your prayers and support. We could not go through this without all of
you. I will try and update again tomorrow. Thanks to my Jimmy for
posting updates as I call them in.
Blessings to you all.
Syndie (for all of us)

I just got word that Gary is finally out of surgery. The surgeon said that Gary was in "pretty good shape" and they are cautiously optimistic. Gary will be on a ventilator for a while. The next 24 hours are very crucial as he recovering from the surgery. The surgeon said that they only ended up doing a by pass on two of the main arteries. Your continued prayers are appreciated for Gary and the family.

Even though Gary was scheduled for surgery at 1:00, he was not taken in
to the operating room until 2:00. The medical team said the surgery
should take about 5 hours.

Please pray for Sherrill and the
kids, they are very nervous and scared. In fact Sherrill has had to
receive some minor medical treatment due to stress. After they took
Gary into surgery she passed out. She had low blood sugars and elevated
blood pressure. She is stable now and actually getting some rest in a
family room.

Your continued prayers are appreciated.

please pray for my grandmother

Filed under: family — jimlbest @ 6:28 pm

I just received this email from my Dad concerning my Grandma Perkins who lives in Charleston, IL with my Mom and Dad.

Jim

Your  Grandma Perkins is in the hospital. She could not get out of side because of

Severe pain in her side. When she said it hurt too much for me to help her up, we called

An ambulance. When she got to the
hospital, she
had a rapid and irregular heartbeat.

The doctor have
kept her so they can regulate her heartbeat.

We have spent most of the day at the
hospital.

This afternoon Gary meet with his surgeon, assistant surgeon, and

probably be 4 hour in length. After the surgery Gary in be in recovery
in ICU for two days. They also have decided to move the surgery time from 8:00am to 1:00pm.

in need of new wheels

Well, my truck will start now, but it is in a fast spin around the drain. So I need to start looking for a new set of wheels. If anyone has a tip on dependable, ultra-cheap wheels, please let me know.

Bright spot for Josiah

Today was the day to have my truck towed to a repair facility. JJ was able to operate to lift bed on the tow truck. He has already said that I is already his highlight of the day!

A note from my Mother-in-law

Hi every one. This is Sherrill and I just got to our dear friends
Katherin and Toby OHara in London. It is so great to have friends where
we can stay. Gary is peaceful but concerned about Friday. The Dr. that
came in tonight said that they will not know for sure if Gary has has
any silent heart attacks until they do the surgery. But we know that he
is in God’s hands and he told the Dr. that tonight as well. He does not
have a phone in his room right now because they might be moving him.
The nurses are all really nice. He has to have an echo cardiogram and a
pulmonary function test tomorrow. They said they will tell us tomorrow
afternoon when the surgery is on Friday. So again–thanks for your
prayers and love. Gary is sure that everything is going to be just
fine. We have talked a lot and realize that there have been some
symptoms that we have not paid any attention to but now we look back
and see some signs that there has been some trouble brewing. Gary is
still VERY concerned about his dad and that is plying heavy on his mind
that he is not there to support his brother and sisters but he is just
not able to do that right now. I know they understand completely. I
will write again tomorrow. love Sherrill

Gary Kivell Update

Filed under: family — jimlbest @ 9:41 pm

Hi All. This is Syndie writing here. Dad got to London safely and is settled in his room. Mom drove herself there later in the afternoon and has been at the hospital with Dad since then. I spoke to her a few minutes ago and got a little more news. One of the surgeons who will be assisting with Dad’s surgery on Friday came in to go over things and informed them that there was actually some damage to the heart and that rather than there being 2 major blockages there are actually 3. While this doesn’t change the plan of care dramatically, it was pretty difficult news for Mom and Dad to get. They are both physically and mentally exhausted and I think this was just a bit (more) of a shock. All of us kids are feeling badly that they are there alone tonight. We had made plans to be there when he was admitted but that was supposed to be tomorrow, not today!

Anyway, that’s it for tonight. My sweet husband will post updates here as we get more info. Thank you so much for your care and concern and prayers. You are all deeply appreciated.

By the way, Jim is also compiling all the comments that are posted here and will print them out for us to take to Dad in the hospital.
